Could you rent an SUV and put a bow on it so you can have something to show her, and then take her around to test drive? I really want a minivan but I wouldn't be happy if my DH picked one out for me.

Is there any way you could get an idea what kind she would like? Maybe ask her best friend to 'casually' fish for information and get back to you or something. I'd hate for you to get her one that she doesn't LOVE.

I always hate the commercials this time of year (like the Lexus ones) that show people surprising a spouse with a new car. I've always told my husband that I would be pissed if he made such a large purchase without at least talking to me about it first.

Now some women are different and would be excited, but I would be royally pi**ed if my husband made a decision of that magnitude withiut my input.

YES. I would be quite annoyed if my husband did not consult me before saddling me with a vehicle he expects me to drive. I chose a Mazda 5, BTW. The opposite of flashy, a mini-minivan, if you will. 6 seats for when the grandparents tag along, but very small, zippy, with a tight turnaround.
