Why do you not care?

I care about the veterans that don't get the money we pay towards illegals. I care about the American children who's education is short-changed due to illegal immigrant children. I care about doctors that don't get paid in hospitals due to illegals.

Because if I had to raise my kids in a town controlled by cartels and have them witness unspeakable violence or end up joining the cartels for protection, I can't say I too wouldn't strap my shit on my back and try to come over here to bust my ass and give my kids a good safe life. THAT is why I refuse to demonize illegal immigrants.

To the PP who has posted multiple times about empathy - where do you suggest we draw the line, then? Open borders? There are lots of people all over the world suffering because of violence, poverty, authoritarian governments, etc. Should we let them all in, if they manage to get here? Not being snarky, just curious. Do you not think that the American government has the duty to help American citizens first, before allowing unskilled immigrants into the country (who at least consume local resources, such as access to public schools, even if they aren't eligible for welfare)? I realize many pay taxes, but generally undocumented immigrants are working in poorly paid jobs, so the value of the services they consume aren't covered by taxes. And many others work under the table. I agree that we should feel empathy toward people who are suffering, but I don't think the right answer is to invite them all to live here.

And this is coming from a HRC voter who thinks Trump's rhetoric/focus on undocumented immigrants is unwarranted and extreme. I just think you're extreme in the opposite direction.

PP, if your ancestors were from a non English speaking country, how quickly do you think they learned English and/or assimilated to a foreign country? When one is working manual labor 40+ hrs/week, it's pretty hard to try to learn a foreign language.

My brother has had to learn spanish because all of his workers don't speak English, but 90 years ago when my grandfather came to the US, he had to learn English to understand his boss.

I read that about 800,000 people become naturalized citizens each year. Seems doable if someone really wanted to.

8 million annual applications for green cards? Even if that number is right the total number of green cards awarded each year is 675,000 with a few exceptions. They don't hand out green cards to unskilled workers.

Plus, many are uneducated, so who knows if they are even aware of how the immigration system works. And it can be expensive to apply for green cards.

Please, illegal alien kids get FREE school and English to become bilingual. Money that could be spent teaching legal children another language which all other countries do. Not us. Lets keep funding ESOL instead and giving illegal aliens two languages. Try to find any other country who not only allows illegal aliens to go to school for free but spends billions in legal citizen's taxes to feed and teach them to become billingual for free.
