What do you guys do with your kids? Most of my shopping is for them, and since I don't want to ditch them on a holiday weekend I shop online or wait until they are back at school.

No I was on the Beltway around 1pm and the line for people to get off at the Tysons exit was ridiculous, same for the Montgomery Mall exit.

See, we normally head there, and did today. We got there around 8 and left at about 11, which is a little earlier than we usually do (we wanted to try to get a jump on the parking mess). In years past, it seems it would be an hour before we could even get near the garages, only to have security wave us away. So we went earlier this year, and got a parking space pretty close in. When we were leaving, I expected to see that madness, but it was still pretty chill. I guess it really picked up at lunchtime. Lesson learned for next year!

We also went out last night to some of the big box stores (Target, Toys R Us), but didn't see any crazy mobs. Busy, yes, but parking available and relatively short lines. This was around 8-9pm, and again, in previous years, the stores have been wall-to-wall people at that time.

This is where I typically shop in person, but we decided to just chill today. Don't need any electronics. Ordered a few things from Boden and JCrew for my kid and a t-shirt for myself, and made a couple charity donations. Frustrating with young kids to find parking, fight crowds, and then they may not even have the sizes you need, and that's all before standing in line. I'm passing this year.

Friendship Heights was quiet this morning - got there at 9 kicking myself for getting out so late, but there was plenty of parking and no lines anyplace. It was.....weird.
