This is on the mark. The only way a bench rider gets better than his teammates is by practicing on his own time. OP, is your son practicing for hours at home? If not, the above comment is correct; your wife is reinforcing that merely the illusion of success is comparable to actual success.

I think it depends on what she's posting...if its "yay, go team!" then it's fine. If it's along the lines of "Billy played amazing today and that's why his team won" then it's sad--especially if she is FB friends with other parents who have kid's on the team.

And there is nothing wrong with that unless your kid is in his final year of playing. He's there to watch the technicalities of his sport. This is not a charity position. He has some skills that have just yet to be defined.
And Dad, do your part. You should be home coaching your kid instead of being ashamed. At least your wife cares.
Why would you assume the dad is in any position to coach his son? My kids play soccer but their dad didn't, so they know much more than he does and he would be of no help.

Private school parent here. Yes we are proud of our boy and the school he attends. So why not brag? People brag about vacations, restaurants, parties, kitchen remodels, and on and on. Perhaps PP is envious of their private school friends.
