PP, I've read a lot about it. Yes, there are businesses who are against it, and there are businesses who are for it, especially small businesses who would really like to offer this benefit but can't afford to pay employees directly during leave, but can afford to pay into an insurance pool. I think a more important question is can we afford not to have universal paid leave.

I understand what you're saying, but my question is can be afford to have it to the extent they are proposing? The MOST generous in the nation and DC businesses covering all the folks from MD and VA who work here..is that sustainable to business in dc to-do it to that extent?

I have mixed feelings about White. He did say though, "We can’t just redraw boundaries and not develop turnaround plans and expect parents to send their kids to neighborhood schools." which I deeply appreciate.

In DC I have always regretted my votes for candidates with a color for a last name and now have a no rainbow voting rule.

I wont vote for ones that supported any of the following measures. Mostly because of how they have been rammed through without transparency or public input , rather than the issue itself though I would disagree with much if there was a place / process to comment or a referendum:

-8 homeless shelters (Cheh has to go)
-that crime bill to pay criminals (I'll look the guy up)
- family leave act (mendhelson and pretty much all of them)
-death with dignity (Cheh again)

I'm not sure when our council will start addressing DCs pressing needs rather than san Francisco's, but I would love to see some centrist candidates present themselves. They'd have my vote.

*sigh* I wish I had seen a thread like this before I voted on Saturday. I think I just picked two random names. I wish candidates would mail out info on their platforms. It would be more useful than the junk I currently see stuffed in my mailbox.

Wow. So you couldn't be bothered to do even the slightest amount of due diligence on the election you (sort of) participated in and this is the candidates' fault? Clearly you have access to the internet. *sigh* indeed.

I voted for both Robert White and David Grosso. Both are fine candidates that deserve your vote.
