My husband is an only and is both a great father to our kids and also a wonderful husband. In fact, he is more flexible and patient than I am with them and with us.

It will be sad/hard when his parents need us and there aren't other siblings to share that with and he does miss having the sibling relationships I have but I can't imagine him being any better socialized or sociable himself.

Hmm, I just had an aha moment after thinking of the men I've dated. Those with sisters were the best guys! More considerate for sure. My ex is an only and extremely selfish in ways that I wasn't used to, but he didn't grow up in a healthy environment.

Depends on many factors: birth order is a consideration, and how they treated each other, if the parents were involved/absent/mentally ill, etc. Too many factors to count.

OP, there are wonderful only children and there are awful siblings - you just don't know until you meet the family and dig in a bit.

If your spouse has siblings, do those siblings celebrate what is good/happy/positive for your spouse, or do they want a piece of the pie? Just one example.

My wife is only child. We have 4 kids and I think she's a great mom. She always says she felt like she didn't have anyone on her "team" and is always encouraging our kids to look out for each other and have each other's back.
