I’m pretty sure SunPass does not work with E-ZPass. Or didn’t last time I was in Florida.

It does and it says so prominently on their web-site (big image and large text): https://www.cfxway.com/e-zpass/
We accept E-ZPass on our roads.

We bought ours long ago and never updated the associated cars or put in new addresses. Just got a stack of violations...just has to go into the account, update the address and cars and print the account history showing that we had $ on the pass and send that in. Just got the notices back today...all fines waived and they just put the missed tolls on our account.

I think it may in limited areas around Orlando? It definitely doesn't in Miami.

Its one of those things that is no problem until it is a problem...when your transponder fails. Mine did on the wrong car during a MD to CT trip. Imagine all the tolls in a round trip. It was a huge headache to get all the fines waved.

I actually have had this fail. I am in MD and put it on a rental car in Florida. They did not register my toll usage on my EZ Pass. After a couple of months, I got an extra charge on my credit card for the tolls and the daily rate for the SunPass usage for my stay. When I called EZ Pass to ask about this I was told that you can use an EZ pass transponder in any vehicle that is registered on the account. They verify license plate. If the license plate is not registered on the account, they don't pay and they charge tolls and penalties to the license plate owner.

When I asked if you could use the EZ pass on a rental car, she said that what I needed to do was when I got the rental assigned, I could go on the web-site and add the rental car to my EZ pass account and after 1-2 days, the vehicle would be officially added. At that point, I could use the transponder in the rental. She cautioned me to be sure to remove the car from my account when I returned the rental. If the next user of the car traveled on an EZ pass road, I could be billed for their usage if they did pay for a toll transponder on the car or if the car transponder was in one of those boxes and the new rentee did not open the box. Then since the license plate was registered to my account, I could be legally billed for the usage since I authorize that vehicle to use my EZ pass account.

I use it on all 3 of our cars and rental cars all the time. Once it didn't register but I called the hotline and paid over the phone, NBD.

Anonymous wrote:Can you use it on multiple cars? Sure. As long as it's working properly, you're not going to get caught (and that's assuming you're using it in a car not listed on the account...in VA, at least, you can freely move it between cars as long as they're both listed).

The problem arises on the rare occasion when your transponder *doesn't* work properly and the car isn't registered. Then you'll likely get a toll violation notice including a decent fine. In my experience, EZPass isn't really helpful in that situation...they won't waive the violation for a non-registered vehicle. In the instances where I had a problem with my transponder in a car that was registered, though, they didn't even send me a notice. They just billed my account for the toll and moved on.

Yes, we had this issue. The battery died in my husband's EZPass. And we got a large bill, including large fines. And when I went into the online account, they had not his current license plate, which he had had for 10 years, but the one on his car from 11 years ago, before we even got an EZPass!!! So bizarre.
