OP, I tell my son that a lot of trump supporters don't really pay attention to him and don't see a lot of his racism and bigotry. They are just thinking of his reputation and reality show. They want change. Not everyone follows politics closely.

I stress that racism, sexism, and bigotry are wrong. Because those are our family values. And a lot of what trump says is racist, sexist, and bigoted. But that doesn't mean kids who like him are. They are kids. They are almost always parroting what their parents say.

OP, you are ignorant and that in turn is why your daughter/friend are that way. Trump trolls? Give me a break. You hate anyone that disagrees with you.

So who exactly is the intolerant one?

Intolerant of the "Donald Trump stuff"? You better believe I am.

In 5th grade, this boy should know full well that what he said was racist and intolerant! He is allowed to support whichever candidate he chooses, but not discriminate himself - which is tough, considering the role model he has.

Our MCPS elementary school principal, whom I know quite well by now (several DCs in school), would not stand for such talk, so I would feel comfortable in bringing the matter to her attention.

I would file a report and contact the principal, despite your not being the parent of the girl, because that sort of comment negatively affects the bystanders as well. it may also be that these girl's parents will not dare to complain, or the girl may feel shamed and not tell her parents. You have to step up.

Apparently not in the opinion of OP, or her daughter.

Twenty bucks OP's kid started this, by criticizing the boy for supporting Trump.

Whether or not the girl's statement is correct or not (and it is pretty widely know that Donald Trump has stated he would consider banning Muslims), the fact of the matter is that the girl believes this for good reason and it is why she is afraid of Donald Trump being elected President. She shared this with the boy to help him understand why. He wasn't interested in a debate. He was shocked to learn she was a Muslim, and then wanted nothing to do with her. Horrendous behavior, which is why I am cautious about the boy now. Plus he keeps telling my daughter that Hillary belongs in prison. Also not true.

He's hearing this at home. MY DH is an immigrant, my 3rd grader had heard from other kids at school 1) that if Trump wins her father will have to go back to the other side of the wall, 2) Hillary is a liar and belongs in jail, and 3) if Hillwry wins this country will become a third rate country (I think the kid meant third world). After the words were exchanged then the kids kept playing. I don't think these other kids really understood what they were saying, but they've heard it somewhere. Both campaigns have said "she's a liar" " she belongs in jail" "crooked Hillary" "he's a bigot" "he's a racist" "he's stupid". Regardless of the candidate, the phrases being thrown around are not phrases I normally would want my children to hear. Our school has actually asked children not to discuss politics at school, ours seems a bit 50/50 on where people stand.

It sounds like OPs daughter and friend tried to engage in a debate where they would convince this boy he's wrong. And while I don't like Trump and am voting for Hillary, I think it's a mistake to attack someone else's political views in hopes of converting them, unless they are extremely wrong. This kid is 10. He doesn't understand world politics. He doesn't understand healthcare, trade agreements, Aleppo, ISIS, mortgage rates, BLM, pipelines, the rising cost of college education, public vs charter schools, etc. Give him a break. Talk to the teacher, but if you are a liberal, like me, it means being open to opinions of others that don't necessarily agree with your own.

Yep, that's the lesson you have been spewing with your HRC love and Trump hate. Way to go, way to teach our kids to respect differences in opinion and to have a conversation. Good Job!

Really, your kid has been singled out for his/her religion by another kid? And you think it's ok or even somehow brave to not fight this. You are an idiot and a terrible parent.

Ugh oh. Another angry HRC voter.

Completely agree. I usually vote Democrat and am not voting for Clinton. I would also say as someone who has been told things like Muslims cause the problems in the Middle East - by a teacher no less - that child, her parents and the original poster are drama queens. Trump is not about deporting all US Muslims, he's about installing immigration controls, which many of us fully support. Again my family is Muslim and we don't need your knee jerk liberal hysteria, we've faced real religious intolerance in this country and its not Trump.

One imagines that if kids in this area parroted what they overheard their parents (of any political persuasion) saying in private about Muslims it would be very ugly indeed.

Muslim is not a race. That actually is offensive that you'd think so. And my family is half Muslim.

And the Muslim girl wasn't? She started it. She goated him and tried to get him to like HER beliefs and political views. How annoying.

This is obvious that you hate Trump and anyone who likes him. So why can't he have the right to hate Clinton and anyone who likes her.

Do you not see the irony?

This all sounds made up to your liking anyway. And if it is not, it is coming from your child's perspective and no one else's. The fact that you seem hellbent on this little boy is strange.

It sounds odd that you are deeming him not a nice kid any longer because at the ripe old age of 10 he is "supporting" a candidate you don't like.

Sounds like your Muslim child was being rude and telling this kid who he should and shouldn't like. Not every trump supporter is racist but that is what the liberals want you to think. I would have gotten defensive too. But nice try.
