Lucky Dog allows full time workers to adopt if there's a dog walker.

We've adopted and fostered for Washington Humane Society. They are very easy to adopt from. You do one adoption interview while filling out paperwork, show you have a plan to care for the dog as needed (dog walker completely acceptable) and can usually go home with the dog the same day. Lots of dogs in foster homes, so you can get a better sense of personality than the shelter.

Definitely check out Homeward Trails. They definitely put the best interests of the dog/breed first, but I was able to get a high energy dog (in an apartment) after telling them my plan for dog daycare (insert plug for Your Dog's Best Friends in Alexandria) while I was at work.

Eh, just go somewhere that is not in the dc metro area to adopt a dog. Shelters are full, lots of dogs are being euthanized, and they aren't quite so picky if they can save another animals life. And, you just saved a dog from dying. And, didn't have to deal with judgemental dc people. Win win.

+1. What's up with these people? The funniest was when lucky dog wanted me to put on hand sanitizer to touch a puppy. First of all, that doesn't do anything but second of all, I didn't even want to touch the puppy. The lady was so aggressive in pointing out to me I have to wash with hand sanitizer before touching. Thanks but no thanks.

Guess I'll use a breeder for our next dog or go to a shelter in another state. The rescue agencies in DC are way too much.

I lied and said he would only be left alone for 6 to 7 hours. I try to make that happen, but it is more like 8 to 9. Other days I am home all day. He sleeps regardless.
