My husband goes to back to school night since I'm at the school on a daily basis. He likes to go.

We have 4 kids and no local family. We are lucky we can get one parent there.

If possible we both go. But there have been times when only one of us has gone.

It's a good opportunity to see your child's classroom setup, meet the teacher and get a feel for what your child will be learning that year. Every year is a little different.

We both go. The kids tag along so the sitter issue is moot. We've always done it this way and our kids are 13 and 12. We're not "super parents" or anything. We just both go.



Does your school provide childcare? Or did you always just bring your kids to BTSN? (Curious as our school does not provide childcare and I have never seen a kid in attendance.)

Maybe they are those parents who bring their kids contrary to the policy of the school. I've seen parents do this and I think it is inconsiderate. We always hired a sitter. As a teacher, I never saw this happen. I never saw it until we moved here and my kids went to FCPS schools. The parents who brought kids were almost always immigrants. Maybe, they did not understand. However, it seemed to be one particular immigrant group that did this. A group that speaks good English.

My husband and I both go, but we are definitely not the norm. Our kids are in 3rd and 6th grade.

Plenty go to ours, but the ones that aren't there are probably home with the kids. There are two things to do, so you divide and conquer.

We have child care available, so one year my ex came with me. The next year he was deployed so I went solo and used the child care. This year he decided to skip it to hang with our kid; he knows I'll report back. I tend to be much more involved in school stuff, plus I'm on the PTA board so my attendance is mandatory.

OP, just tag team it if you don't have childcare. No problem. But it's great if both parents can make it.

Be aware that as kids get older, BTSN actually is more important, not less important. Just posted this elsewhere, but-- by MS and HS, the back to school nights are where the teachers often explain curriculum and grading details that your tween or teen might never let you know. Grading in HS is changing this year, for instance, so I think our BTSN at DD's school is going to involve a lot of important explanations of grading that parents should know. We always learn at lot of concrete stuff at BTSN since DD was in MS.

At our school generally both parents go but the school provides childcare.

Not true at any of the schools my children have attended. That includes 2 elementaries, 2 middles and 2 high schools. Lots and lots of dads there.
