Patagonia has a slim fit. If you have real boobs, lots of Patagonia coats aren't going to fit. If you're a 32 b, you're in luck!

I can definitely understand if they don't like layers or are forgetful of them, but usually my kids were only wearing the whole thing in the coldest of weather. I have a Patagonia jacket and it runs true to size, but it's puffy.

Personally the key things for me after fit, is being waterproof and something that gives kids visibility when it gets dark earlier.

OP here. My DS would take the coat apart even on the coldest of days. So for him I just have to eliminate the urge. I also have to have the coat waterproof and have something on it that's reflective. That's why I like the L.L. Bean coat in the past. I guess I'm going to L.L. Bean and Columbia sometime in the next couple of months.

Maybe your son zips out the lining because he's hot? So buying a heavy coat might be uncomfortable. A lot of those lining are fleece, which I would not want to wear personally. Fleece makes me panicky-hot. Maybe ask your kid if fleece is a problem for him since some jackets have fleece as a built in lining that you can't remove.

Op here. He actually loves his fleece jacket. He has a Columbia fleece that he would wear every single day, and I would let him but not out in the snow. Honestly I was thinking of letting you wear the fleece with a rain jacket on top of it for snow.

Try Uniqlo. Great, lightweight down that is perfect for around here. If you need something warmer, like for winter sports, look for the brand Gerry.

I know there was a lot of snow last couple of years, but apart from few days when it was pretty cold, there is no reason to spend over 600 dollars to even 1K on a winter jacket for a teen. This must be just really wealthy parents posting. How is Columbia and North Face not good enough any more?

HH was $43 on amazon and not bulky at all. Plus Canadians and Scandinavians should know a thing or 2 about winter coats.

Ok, so I am a hypocrite! I admit it. LOL. I want that jacket for my DS now! Yes, I am the same pp from above, in my defense, we spend a lot of time skiing in CO.

Can you please post a link to it? I saw it yesterday and it was a winter jacket with good reviews and must've been on sale, and today I can't find it and really should have bought it yesterday. Bummer.

Maybe they are discontinuing it.

This coat can be had used for $10 from Unique or craigslist. HH coats can be as little as $40 and bought TNF ones for $40-$50 from 6pm.com or backcountry.com.
HH kid's clothes are not all made for skiing or hiking.
Want your kid to feel special? Try Norrona.

+1. I am also for buying used. They grow so fast and usually a drive around garage sales will get you something nice.

This. Instant popularity. Gives my kids a lot of confidence. Moncler is another great winter coat brand.

This is the most stupid thing I've heard in a long time.

I would not get a NF that uses the thermoball insulation if your son doesn't like to be hot. It works too well and doesn't breathe. It's like wearing a plastic bag.
