I was going to write the same thing! DW and SIL both sound like drama queens.

In a nutshell, this whole dramatic weekend is about faux celebrations that no one cares about except the people insisting on the big to do : gender reveal and an adult non milestone birthday.

For shame OP! Just try to get through it.

I would share my birthday with my SIL, 2 twin toddlers, a homeless person, 3 cats and a dead President but I'm an adult so I guess I don't get this.

Her family, his family, my family, your family - holy crap, man, you're married now! YOUR family is your wife and your soon to be born child. Host one dinner, put some candles in a cake, and sing happy birthday. Hell, sing it two or three times if it makes everyone happy. Don't cater to all this nonsense.

And a gender reveal party? Are you kidding? You will be a whole lot happier when you come to the realization that nobody else really cares.

You sound lovely OP, and very accommodating, but I do have to agree a little with this poster. Though your wife may get a pass if she's not normally like this and is just suffering from pregnancy hormones.

Saturday brunch, one side of the family goes out for brunch, comes home and has cake.
Saturday night, have the gender reveal.
Sunday brunch, other side of the family goes out for brunch, comes home and has cake.

Announce schedule when everyone arrives. Every adult can decide which of the events to attend or not attend.

Wow, this is silly. Cake at the restaurant is a perfect idea. Usually you just call in advance and ask if they have candles. It can be a surprise if you want, so that whatever dessert you order comes out with the candle & Happy Birthday written on the plate.
