I hate it...to each their own.

I love it, but if you hate it, don't use it.

Just please don't go ahead with the name then spend the rest of her life addressing her by her middle name.

I'm not a fan.

If you hate it, it's not the name for your child though. Back to the drawing board.

I like it but agree with pps that say if you hate it, pick another name!

Also, Petra is worse. Every Petra I've ever met was a snooty bitch.

It sounds like a stripper name to me.

That would be porcus.

It may shock you to hear that Nameberry is wrong.

Latin for pig is indeed "porcus." And "porta," NOT "portia" is Latin for gate, not door.

Wow, you're a very literal person, aren't you. Does this make you happier?

"Portia is derived from an old Roman family name Porcius (from the Latin “porcus” meaning “pig”)"

I do like Portia.

No. It's named for its founder, Ferdinand Porsche.

We have family friends who named their daughter Portia. I wouldn't have picked it but it works for them. The good news is it is very uncommon; there won't be three Portias in every class.

I like it. Kyle Richards has a daughter named Portia. Ellen's wife is Portia. Thumbs up.

Exactly. Start again. There are thousands of names out there and you've got another month.
