Ugh a cruise seems like the opposite of what she wants. Crowded and crammed with CHILDREN.

I like the Salamander or Greenbriar suggestions. Somewhere with some luxury (more than a B&B) and beautiful grounds. A spa might be a little bonus, if you are into that type of thing.

Charlottesville, VA

We stayed at 200 South Street Inn. There are even rocking chairs on the front porch. Get a room with a jacuzzi tub. They do simple breakfast there and have fresh baked cookies all day. For lunch and dinner, downtown Charlottesville is 1-2 blocks away and has a ton of restaurants.

If you feel up to it, take a tour of one of the many wineries in the area.

Anonymous wrote:Honestly OP, DH and I scoped tons of B&Bs that looked quaint near Shenandoah Ntl Park and all the ones we saw were stinky or dirty.

Personally, I have always wanted to go to L'Auberge Provencale or however you pronounce it.

Also, maybe somebody could recommend a place they stayed in Harpers Ferry or Berkley Springs.

L'Aubrrge is wonderful.

I love the Goodstone Inn and the restaurant is amazing. For whatever reason my DH wasn't a fan.

Tell me more about Lost River - I'm not OP but I have been net surfing about it. Does it have any kind of mainstreet with quaint places to stumble in, are there nice trails, etc.?

How about a hotel on the beach? September should be quiet with good weather. Get a room facing the ocean with a balcony. Bring books and sit and read in the salt air. No need to step foot on the sand unless you wish. But, walks on the beach can be nice.
