Similarly priced house in Darien, CT taxes are $19k.

That basking Ridge house is gorgeous
I know! It makes me want to move to NJ! Much betrr decorating taste than houses you see in DC too.
Why can't I find a home that looks like anything even remotely close to this in the DC burbs. Developers have really shortchanged us.

What part of NYC would DH be working in?
I don't thunk $500k will be a nice life in NYC proper.
In CT, Darien and Westport are nice towns.
Summit is also nice and parts are walkable. Chatham, Glen Rock and Ridgewood are great too.
+1. 500K is not enough to live in NYC or an NYC suburb.
That is ridiculous. I live in Westchester, and it's completely possible.
. Plenty of families live comfortably even in Westchester on way less than $500k annual salary. Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Hi OP!!
I'm from the Hudson Valley area. Its a little too far North to commute everyday to NYC but its definitely doable for jobs that have the option to work from home a couple times per week. I'm not sure if thats an option for your husband but if it is I LOVE living here. Some really nice towns and school districts. Not to mention its beautiful and there's a lot to do. Good luck with everything!
What town?
