OP here. Ugh I wish this wasn't such a puzzle! Trying to figure out what causes what and what the priority should be, etc etc etc! I wish I could just have a psychiatrist, therapist, speech therapist etc. observe my son for a week! It's also so hard to describe him to the doctors, and every time we find someone new, I have to start all over again, and I never quite feel like I'm doing the description much justice! I'm sure many of you can relate....

Intuniv is not a stimulant. My DS takes it at bedtime because it causes drowsiness.

OP, you child is on two stimulants: Vyvanse and Intuniv. Before I added another drug to his medication regimin, I would stop both stimulants and see if it improves his mood. They definitely have an effect on mood, anxiety, aggression, anger. Talk to your doctor first to get advice on how to stop them. You may need to wean off slowly.

Your son sounds almost identical to mine. My son is 12 and takes Vyvanse, Prozac, Intuniv, and Lamictal. He has ADHD and bipolar is a presumptive diagnosis at this point. The Lamictal is a mood stabilizer for bipolar. I've talked to my son's psychiatrist at length about it and he prescribes it because, in his words, "it's an easy medicine to take for kids." It's been very helpful for my son, with no side effects.

My son tested into average range for speech for the first time after we started lamictal, at 4. We've had no side effects. I think all of these drugs have some effects on the brain, let's not kid ourselves.
