That isn't the issue with this. Look at the box office of "Bridesmaids", that shows a majority female ORIGINAL movie can make a ton of money. "Pitch Perfect" and the sequel are also good examples.

We just saw the new Ghostbusters movie last night ( myself, two teen daughters and husband) We all loved it especially because the four women had distinct different personalities. The one grip my husband had was the Chris Helmsworth character as he thought he was 'too stupid'. But, I told him "now you know how we have felt for years ( and still continue despite the breakthroughs)

I agree that you should wait until your kid is older. The ghosts were scary but, also there is physical violence with the ghosts hurting people and fighting can get scary if you are sensitive.

Go see it and also stay to the very end. There are bonus scenes that hopefully set up the next Ghostbusters II! Btw, I recognized Bill Murray but didn't recognize Dan Aykroyd as the Taxi driver ( sorry to say he didn't look too good) Sigourney Weaver looked good but would have been nice to see more of her!

I've seen it. I loved it, but I really like the 4 female leads so I got all their styles of humor. Also many of the actors from the original make cameos, so that made it fun. Many of the jokes are slight, witty and quick, so if you don't pay attention you will miss them (as if it were an SNL skit). There is no romance in the movie, unlike the original which had a huge underlying love plot between Signorey Weaever and Bill Murray and then all the sexual innuendo between her and Rick Moranis. There is some bathroom humor. There is very little swearing (I think I all really heard was pissed). If your children are scared of movies with ghosts, then this is not the movie for them. Most of the ghosts are scary, they aren't casper there to say hello, and after they slime they sometimes throw humans around which can be upsetting for some kids. My younger kid could handle it. My older kid got upset at Transylvania with the ghosts, so no go for her. Everyone knows their own kid, so it is a judgment call. But it is a funny, light summer movie that a family can go see.
