Subject: Summer screentime rules for 10-11 year olds?

This is very extreme what are you so afraid of? Good grief your kids are going to sneak time and not want to be home much in a few years

Subject: Summer screentime rules for 10-11 year olds?
All of my kids are outside that age range now, but when the older ones were around age 10-11 we did not have specific time limits. We still don't.
Our rules have always been:
1. If something you're watching in a main area of the house bothers another member of the family, Netflix it on one of the laptops and either use headphones or take it somewhere else.
2. Follow our family's values and behavior expectations regardless of what any TV character might model; different strokes for different folks, and besides, there's a difference between televised entertainment and real life.
3. Make sure you manage your time such that you also meet any obligations you have. Chores, activities you've committed to participate in, plans you've made with friends, any planned family stuff, etc. Balance is important in life.
As with anything in our house, the kids all understand that if a specific problem crops up and a likely cause is identified, the kids will have a chance to resolve the problem themselves but if it remains our first course of action in resolving the problem will be to deal with what we think is a contributing factor. So, if the TV watching starts causing a specific problem, that problem will need to be resolved to everyone's satisfaction and one part of that might be adjustments to TV viewing.
