I like Samantha and Charlotte! Can't relate to Miranda at all (she treats Steve like a mother treats her 14yo son!) and Carrie has me scratching my head. Of the boyfriends, I find Aidan the most annoying (still on season 4, so it might change) -- it's like, drop the tough-guy schtick and quit thinking you're sooooo amazing because you cut your hair and lost .3 pounds (his "transformation" isn't even noticeable).

I agree with you. I hope my thoughts below don't spoil anything for you since you haven't finished the series yet.

The girls:
- I liked Samantha and Charlotte, too.
- I couldn't stand Miranda until the very end of season 6, when she suddenly became tolerable (when she helped out with Steve's mom and told Big to go get "our girl" in Paris).
- Carrie was okay, but not my favorite.

The boyfriends/husbands:
Carrie's boyfriends:
- Even though he could be an ass at times, I usually liked Big. :o
- I couldn't stand Petrovsky.
- Aidan was okay, but not my favorite.
- I couldn't stand that Jack Berger (Ron Livingston) character. Ugh.

Samantha's boyfriends:
- I actually liked Smith!
- I didn't like Richard.

Charlotte's boyfriends/husbands:
- I couldn't stand Trey. He was a big baby.
- I adored Harry. He was a really nice guy!

Miranda's boyfriends/husbands:
- I liked Steve. I felt bad for him because Miranda treated him so badly.
- I didn't like Robert, the doctor (Blair Underwood)

The friends/"staff":
- I found Stanford annoying, but endearing.
- I also found Anthony annoying, but funny.
- I loved Miranda's housekeeper, Magda. She didn't put up with Miranda's BS.

Unless it was last call and they were stupid drunk, never would have happened.

I disagree. She had a distinctive look but not ugly. A certain guy would be very attracted to her I think, she was always confident if nothing else. Great legs, too.

Is it fair to characterize it as the more intellectual version of the god-awful HIMMYM?

Never seen Boy Meets World, Fresh Prince, 90210 or Seinfeld; Janice wasn't that bad b/c she came and went in small doses. Uncle Joey was the worst! The pull-my-finger and the chipmunk thing were the definition of unfunny. I got the impression that he was closeted several times watching the show.

Never seen Seinfeld??????? The others you can forget, but Seinfeld? Classic.

Everyone tells me that! I saw snippets of episodes here and there, but never watched one through.

What's interesting is that Carrie became more annoying right when Sarah Jessica Parker became director or whatever you call it. It was a much better show when she was only an actor and not in charge.

Well some people say it's the gay writers interpretation of women or something like that.

Anonymous wrote:Carrie was definitely annoying at times but a lot of her dysfunctional behavior with men was explained for me in an episode where she mentions that her father abandoned her when she was 5.One of the reasons I refused to watch the prequel series was that it totally changed that key part of the Carrie's backstory which, IMO, largely contributed to the character being who she is.

You're seriously discussing character development? That's cute.

All the hate yet you all pretend to be these fake characters. Go figure.

Ally McBeal was for sure the worst of the 90s.

Carrie could be obnoxious but she did get her comeuppance at times. I'm specifically thinking of Berger.

All 4 satc characters were horrible.
