I'm a NP Californian and not a fellow beach snob! Geez! I even grew up in the Santa Cruz mountains. I love the Northern CA beaches but love Rehoboth too, though I like to hang at the end toward Dewey. You can often see Dolphins there and the boardwalk is fun. Because there aren't surfing waves you can get out pretty far.

Oh please. They are mountains. Few are as grand as the Rockies, but these are mountains nonetheless. IMHO, the mountains on the East are better than the beaches on the East Coast. I'm the PP from Maui, and I am going to make the false claim that the East Coast beaches are not beaches. They are beaches, but not as nice as the ones I am most familiar with in Hawaii.

California beaches might be nice, no doubt, but water is freezing! You might be pleasantly surprised at not having to freeze to death at beaches here and then go to Florida where water is heavenly warm.

Another vote for Cape May - definitely the best "close by."

Myrtle's got great water for swimming, wide beaches and tons to do. No, it's not a tranquil, secluded beach; but busy beaches have a certain appeal too.
