OP here - love these! Please keep them coming and I'll run them by DH. So many great suggestions! If only DH wasn't so particular.

But, I also had a mentor names Margaret who went by Migsie. Worked really well for her and I think it would be cute for a baby too!

Migsie! That's a great one!

I love Mugs. I had an elderly, much-loved cousin named Margaret who went by Mugs.

I do like Margaret by itself, but Margaret is rhyme-y with the last name, so on a day to day basis a nickname would flow better.

OP here - wow, so many responses already, thanks all! I do like Margaret by itself, but Margaret is rhyme-y with the last name, so on a day to day basis a nickname would flow better. Our older DD also has a name that lends itself to sassy old-timey nicknames. Haven't thought about middle names yet, because while we'd really like to use Margaret as a first to honor a particular family member, if we can't get on the same page regarding what we'd actually call her, it will probably end up as a middle.

Like the Mae, Mimi, and Mugs (so cute!) suggestions! DH doesn't like "cutesy", i.e., Maisie, Daisy, or Maggie.

Now that I type it, I think what we're looking for is a sassy, old-timey nickname. Not super girly, and good for an adult, not just little girl. What do you think of Peggy? Too generational still?

Ok, ok, I'm the old fart who posted about Dagwood and Driving Miss Daisy. Thanks for giving me a laugh and reminding me of how old I am!

My Margaret is in high school and LOVES her given name. As close as we come to a nickname is occasionally just cutting it off at Marg.

I wouldn't get creative. I'd use Maggie or Meg.

I knew one Margaret who used Mimi as a nickname. I know one Margaret Anne who used to go by MegAnn (pronounced like Megan), but now just goes by Meg. I know a Margaret Jane who goes by MJ. Or just have her use her middle name. I know a number of people who are J. Michael Doe using their middle name as their username.
