Breakthrough Montessori has spots for PK4 for next year and is right by the Metro in Petworth. It's a new school, so that comes with some risks.

If your goal is to get a PK4 spot for September:

Amidon-Bowen, Sela, Height, Center City Shaw, Walker-Jones

If your goal is bilingual education:

DC Bilingual, Powell, Cleveland Dual Language, Sela

Other:

School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens (near the Foggy Bottom metro), Garrison, Seaton, Meridian, Cleveland English

As I mentioned: I am open. I am working in the CRystal/Pentagon City area and would like to live somewhere commutable to there. I do not yet know where my spouse will work. I have a 4 year old. I am investigating NoVa schools as well. But I am posting in the DC forum because I like urban areas and I want to also see if there are any DC schools that are good, but easily commutable to work. DC is convenient because its central, and if my spouse end up working on the MD side I would assume we'd be better situated. I'm even looking at places in the inner MD side as well. But I'm not looking for advice on VA or MD schools here.

She is trying to decide. There's nothing confusing about that.

Depending on your child's age, there might be space at Lee or Shining Stars, if you want Montessori. Both schools are moving to brookland next year, almost equidistant in opposite directions from the red line metro. Worth checking out.

Ahh, yes this is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. The descriptions and school ratings can't beat some firsthand knowledge sometimes.

Some of the others have really generic descriptions, but they could be good schools I love. But that's a starter list.

I'd put West Education Campus over Dorothy I. Height. The Dorothy Height school was converted from a corrupt charter school, and no one really knows what's going to happen with that.

Creative Minds family here - it's 1/2 a mile from the metro. But a bus line (h8) stops right in front of the school.

so, I guess I like the idea of a school that stresses critical thinking, if that helps.

Also, it appears east of Ft Totten gets more suburban.. is that true, or is it still walkable to schools and transportation?

I forced to drive... is the commute through the city hellish?
