Otherwise here are more not necessarily ethnic names that I think dound stong but not trendy (i think-- I agree w mother of two girls above, as I am one too!) thinking of names of kids i knew who were cool and whose names maybe seemed to help or reflected that cool.
Victor - Vic for nn
Oscar
Marcus
Wayne
Nathan - Nate
Louis - i think Louie or Lou is cute
Curtis or Kurt
Paul

OP. Nope, we are very white!Typical, middle class family. Names I like that have been suggested:
Paul: But, I know my ex named his son Paul. We still have a few common Facebook friends although he lives far away and I haven't talked to him in 10 years. Is that weird that we'd chose the same name?
Walker: Not bad. Too trendy?
Cole: Not terrible
I don't hate Charlie but would never do it because there are SO many girl Charlies on the playground.

In the under 5 set, I know 3 little girls named Charlotte, nn Charlie. I know zero little boys named that.
I know and have seen exactly what you're talking about, but I think OP could name her kid Charles and call him Charlie and the world could follow along just fine.
