7x8=56. Think: 5, 6, 7, 8
Now you only have 4 more.
So 5x6=78??

I could never memorize the times tables either. It impacts my quick arithemetic ability but nothing else. I have a BS in physics which of course required a lot of math. Still can't quickly retrieve the 4x, 6x, 7x, and 8x. Oh well

We had the same problem with our ADHD kid.
What helped us was Mathnasium. We checked kumon but that repetitive work would not have been good for her. And the outside worksheets would have been more stress at home.
It was helpful to have someone else teach her- I spent so much time at home with her and it got too stressful for both of us.
Mathnasium was a nice, neutral environment that wasn't school and wasn't home. They did a combination of verbal, written, visual, tactical methods.
It took a year to get her on track. She didn't learn her multiplication table until she was in 6th grade.

Worth Checking out. I have found it helpful, but it does require learning the stories. In learning the stories, you learn the times tables.
