OP here. The wedding is far because the bride is a bit particular. I included that info because I figured people would likely ask if I also needed to travel to the wedding.

The brides sister had planned to throw the shower but she wasn't very organized - the bride came k me at the last minute and asked me to step in and do it. The date had already been set. So I planned and also ended up paying for everything.

I would say typically for a wedding I set a budget of 100 or 150 and split that between the shower and the wedding - all these people who would spend over 100 on something "small" are insane.

I didn't get a plus one by the way. I know some people take that into account.


OP The question is what is your HHI? It sounds low.

What's your HHI? I wouldn't give this much even if I hadn't spent a ton of money on the wedding already...

This is a lot more than I received in cash wedding gifts.

My maid of honor did not give me a wedding gift. I knew it was a stretch for her to host the shower.

Wow. Those of you who would give more than a token have far more disposable income than I do. Seriously, we must be in totally different socioeconomic levels because, frankly, I couldn't afford to spend what OP has already spent and I'm not willing to spend more than I can afford. I wouldn't do anything more than a heartfelt card and, if you can afford it, a small gift card/gift off the registry.

Even though you spent the $700, these are related to the planning of the wedding but its separate from the wedding gift. That said, you did throw her a shower AND you're in the wedding (God help you), so $100 would suffice. Or get her something from her registry that is within that range ($75-$100).
