Well, I am "a grown women" and sometimes walk 6 miles at a time on an outing. So, while I'm not hiking in the woods (I have hiking boots for that), I do need very comfortable and supportive shoes. Sometimes that means compromising on the look of the shoe a bit.

These look just as bad as the Keens, in my opinion. FTR, I know my Keens aren't the prettiest, but they are amazing. So comfortable and what I really love is that my toes are covered. I can slip them on to help DC learn to ride a bike or go somewhere crowded in the summer and know my feet won't get stomped on.

I have these as well but cannot wear them for extensive walking (miles). They have a flap of material on the inside of the strap that tends to rub a blister. They are great run around shoes and water/beach shoes.

If you are ACTUALLY hiking, you should wear hiking boots. Not sandals. Or do you mean "taking a walk in the woods"?


Perhaps the confusion here is that the OP asked for suggestions for shoes to wear on a walk. Not in the woods, not up a mountain, not on a raft, not in the Amazon Rainforest.

I have a pair of Keens I wear for actual sports -- e.g., sailing. But for just walking around, I really like Vionic flip flops. Very comfy, and not ugly.
