I use Manic Panic in my own hair. Magenta chunks, etc. (I work in a liberal/creative field.) It's bright for a week, then slowly fades for a month. I have dark blond-to-almost-brown hair and haven't bothered bleaching it first.

I get lots of compliments, especially in the faded phase. Helps cover the gray too
