Why do you need a pickup truck? It's stupid an SUV or SEDAN is fine, go rent a parking space in a commercial area.

A friend of mine in TX owned a business and had an SUV "wrapped" promoting his business. He was told he couldn't park it in his driveway or on the street.

I'm kind of bitter towards our HOA. It's not like we even live in a nice area or they provide any nice amenities.

The latest issue I had with them was when trying to build a deck and trying to go through the necessary approval process.

Only to find out that first they only allow wooden decks. Then next you're not allowed to paint or stain your deck.

A major issue with our HOA board is that most of the people on there don't even live in the neighborhood and just rent out the homes. So guess they're not aware of all of the other decks that aren't in compliance. I didn't want to mention that fact because didn't want to cause trouble for other homeowners.

But my own fault for trying to go by the rules.

HOAs forget they can't violate state and federal law. If people are parking on a public street, and there's no county law to prohibit that, towing a car leaves the HOA open to paying that bill.

I own the lot next to my home. We don't want to build on it, so we put a wildflower garden on it, complete with a gazebo, mowed paths and flowered arbor entrances. It was approved when we did it, but the current HOA doesn't like it and wants it mowed down. They are SOL.

We have an HOA but it's not run by psycho neighbors like some are. My friend's HOA for example is run by volunteers and the head of the HOA had a car towed from a visitor spot b/c SHE had an orange cone there and was saving the spot for herself. One of the downsides to her shitty HOA though is that there are no restrictions on stuff like trash collection so on trash day, everyone on the street just dumps their garbage bags (no cans) by the mailboxes. It is, literally, a 10 by 10 foot pile of trash about 3 feet high. And it smells foul. It's disgusting. And it's right in front of my friend's house. I'm not a fan of HOAs but that's just gross and that would be one of the few things I think an HOA should have a rule about.

My HOA has rules on things like drain pipes being exposed, trash cans that are visible from the street, getting approval before changing your siding or putting on a new front door (if either are different than your current), leaving trash out that's not in containers, etc. But a lot of it is rarely enforced unless someone turns you in. Once a year or so they will walk around looking for stuff but in general, they leave you alone unless there are complaints.

No pick-up trucks can be parked outside

My parents have a rule that the garage door must be closed unless you are going in or out of the garage

No flags of any sort (which is good to keep things looking uniform and to prevent some crazy flags from being flown). But somebody asked about an American flag exemption, they were told no. I moved after that, but know that the community was preparing to change that rule (through a 75% majority vote of owners)

I've never lived in a neighborhood with an HOA. Yet there have never been oddly painted houses, trash blowing around the streets, or half-assed plywood sheds anywhere I've lived.

I love everything about it. I don't have to worry about trashy neighbors, ugly yards, ridiculous paint colors, loud music, boats or RVs, barking dogs, .....

We've received one note in 7 years asking us to paint out mailbox. So we painted it.

Wow, different strokes for different folks I guess because that would drive me bonkers.

Me too. Living in a place like that would make me want to paint my house pink and leave the grass long.

This is great - as there is not one nutso hypocrite neighbor enforcing arbitrary rules, but instead an entire HOA that you bought into. Makes sense, and sounds desirable.

Would love to live in a neighborhood like this with strict HOA. We have no HOA but luckily neighbors are decent.
