Is it location, room, or services that make a great hotel.

I can think of hotels I dream of going back to that aren't much more than B&Bs but are in fantastic locations, or I can think of luxury hotels where everyone who works there bows to you if you pass them in the hall.

OP here. We recently stayed there and thought the pool was great for the kids.

With kids - 4 room cabin at the Greenbrier. It says cabin but it's is definitely not a cabin.

When were you at Kamp? Since it has become a Starwood property, I feel like the quality has decreased. Best burger and fries in Helsinki, though!

Best Hotel prekids - Four Season Mauritius. Amazing. Also amazing was Singita Sabi Sands in South Africa, but not a typical hotel.
Best hotel with kids - a newly designed room at the Sanderling in the OBX, believe or not!

OP here. I started this thread in hopes of finding some ideas of places to go this summer. Sanderling may be a good choice as a road trip.

Other than that, perhaps the JK Place in Capri, the Ritz Carlton in NYC or the Copacabana Palace in Rio.

ELOISE!!!

Eloise lived in the Plaza. The Palace isn't the same, although PP had a pretty good set up there!

ALWAYS wanted to go to the st regis bora bora - that's where they filmed Couples Retreat
I'd have to go with Raffles in Beijing. You get a personal ambassador

Without kids: The Renaissance Chancery Court in London--that was several years ago, it's now called "Rosewood"
OR
maybe the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami. I was paying a very reasonble rate (I think around $150/night?) but they upgraded me to a suite on the top floor, with floor to ceiling windows and a gorgeous view of the city and the water! And concierge lounge access!

With kids: Boardwalk Inn at Disney World--we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on the club level. The bathroom in the master bedroom was beautiful---the rest of the suite was just ok...but the location can't be beat. And usually with the kids we stay at Springhill Suites or Residence Inn, so this was a great treat.

Another vote for Punta Islita in Costa Rica. Pre-kids, of course...
