No doubt it was a great idea in the 90s, but Match and Tinder turned them into MySpace.

A good friend signed up and met a lot of great ladies. He ended up dating one for over a year. His experience was good.

I am a guy -- research scientist. Back in the 90's, they contacted me based on my match.com profile. They "promised" me a higher quality match, and waved the fee.

For me, that sounded weird. Usually, the women are the ones with reduced fees. I said sure. Two lunches, but the women I was matched with, well, we had nothing in common. They did not ask for the information to properly vet me. I think they match randomly. I also think they have trouble getting men.

FWIW, around this time, I met my now wife.

As a single parent who also owns a company, it's been a great way for me to date. I haven't met anyone for an exclusive relationship yet (5 months in) but so far have met some pretty remarkable women...and it's easy and low hassle which my schedule requires. IJL has been in business for over 20 years which was reassuring to me.

So I had a run in with these folks not to long ago. She started out with "I know a new client, a surgeon, that you would be great for". Then later she mentioned a pilot, then she wanted my money. Total SCAM

My loser ex boyfriend did this. But, he's a loser so I guess for him it was a good fit.

Had a friend who blogged about her experiences, back when everyone had a blog. Like what everyone above is saying, her experiences were uninspiring.

I did IJL some years ago and had a horrible experience. One of the guys I was supposed to meet didn't show up. The others were not people I ever would have chosen (not very interesting). When I had one date remaining, a new woman there found my file and promised to set me up with all kinds of wonderful guys, but only if I paid for another package of dates. I asked why I couldn't just meet one of them for the last date in my current package, but she set me up with some odd loser guy instead. I thought about joining the lawsuit--it definitely seemed like a scam.

This is word of mouth from one of my buddies. He did it because they "recruited" him and offered him free membership and maybe paid for his lunches. Apparently they seem to have a hard time finding good quality men. My buddy is a 6-7, partner in a law firm, 36, never married, no kids. He ended up meeting his girlfriend through okcupid. Why not do online dating OP? It costs less, and there are more people out there with less investment.

WMAL advertises for IJL now. Ads in heavy rotation.

Curious (and married) I decided to read their Yelp reviews. Makes for some great late-night reading. Reviews are awful.

Surprised this business model is even sustainable. To the PP who mentioned it seems so dated, so 90s, I knew two of the saleswomen/matchmakers who ran the DC franchise in the 90s. Dumb and dumber. Both quit after two years as they literally could not make a living.

Sounds awful, like speed dating. I wouldn't advice either for any self respecting woman. The men you'd want have no need for the service.
