I don't think so. The writers say they've had this plan from the start. Plus why would JM want to turn her character into such an unlikable shrew? But maybe so. Perhaps art imitates life after all.

Not true. I read an I yet view with her where she said she had to read the finale script three times to come to terms with it, and even then she still didn't know how she felt about it. She DEFINITELY did not dictate that finale.

The ending made sense to me because she has been made out to be an essentially selfish person the past couple of seasons. She has slowly turned into Peter, which also makes sense because they must have had something in common to be married for so long, no? What didn't make sense to me was why she dumped Peter after Will died. Peter was being insensitive about the death, but was it that it made her realize how much like Peter (not Will) she really was?

Interesting theory. Josh Charles leaving a hot show to do nothing else never made sense to me.

I agree. I was hoping for a Kelly Taylor "I choose me" moment with regard to Peter and Jason, but I've grown to hate Alicia over the last two seasons so the "nobody chooses me" moment was even better for me. Without Diane she has no mentor/almost friend and no job, without now-disgraced-again Peter she has no husband and no social standing, and without Jason she has no what-the-fuck-ever that was that the show was trying to sell us and I wasn't buying. She spent all these years building all these relationships after starting over in the pilot, and yet she still has nothing.

I thought the ending was fitting. It didn't tie stuff up neatly in a bow it left a big mess, a professional and personal mess which it would have done if there had been another season to work things through. I like that.

I wasn't too happy about seeing Will, he is such a pig face, but for the story, it did totally make sense.

How fucking lame.

Couldn't agree more. They had no idea what to do with Carey. And Diane was just a pawn in all the Peter drama. I didn't like Lucca much. And Alicia and Jason didn't even have any chemistry.

I really hate how Cary and Diane (Cary especially) were basically ignored this season in favor of brand new characters (Jason and Luca). I think it would have been much more satisfying to spend the season on Alicia's long-term relationships instead of introducing a new best friend and love interest.
