OP I think you are hung up on a name for the wrong reasons. I did this when I was pregnant and looking back I didn't really like the name that much but was bothered that someone in my family staked a claim to it and it made me obsess on it. I did not give my daughter the name and am really glad I didn't because I don't even like it. Maybe you are doing that? I would name her Elise and pick a different middle name. I think Margaux is awful and trying too hard FWIW.

I totally agree with this. Go with Elise and find another middle name. Maybe to honor a family member? Elise Marie is lovely. Or Elise Claire. Elise Sabine. Elise Clara. Elise Catherine. Elise Jane.

Seriously, if you give your child almost the same name as your niece but only would it be really crazy, it might really upset your sister. If I was your sister I would be surprised and upset.

Don't care that much about my sister. She's been self-involved and a bully my whole life. I don't like any of those names. It feels like it's just one more thing I can't have because of her. I can't even give my baby the name I want.

there are thousands of names. I would hope that you could find one that you like that isn't your niece's name. Really bizarre.

Going with the Elyse spelling because Elise happens to be niece's middle name which I also loved.

Omg. No! Usually I saw no big deal, but you cannot just reverse niece's name. That is really weird. And even weirder that you didn't mention it in your first post

Are these family names, maybe a grandmother's or a beloved aunt's? If they are, you have just as much right to them as your sister does. In the past, families all used names over and over, it was just part of being family.

I already said I liked Elaine. Can you settle on that one as it isn't the same names as your niece and maybe we can help with middle names?

I suppose we could go with Elaine. I don't love it , but my husband suggested it and it's okay. We have an alternate middle name of Grace.

Elaine Grace is fine. Just like everything has always been for me. Just fine.

Your niece is Margaux Elise and you want to name your daughter Elyse Margaux?

That's a little too close for me.

I'd go with Elaine Margaux, or Elaine Margot, or Elena (my favorite) Margaux/Margot/Margaret

I really love Elena. I also love Eliana.

I love the name Eloise, which is pretty close to Elyse. I vote for Eloise Grace. And I agree with the other PPs-- you just can't name your daughter the same thing as your niece, even in reverse.

My husband and I couldn't agree on a name for our son. He didn't get his name until day 2, and he totally looks like the name. It's okay to wait until she's born, really.
