I'm concerned about the early sexual context at schools. In our Elementary school I hear about them having boyfriends, asking a girl to a dance, etc. It's crazy early. Why can't kids be kids?
Because kids being kids involves boyfriends/girlfriends, etc.

Yep. Exactly.

This occurs in places as varied as Montgomery Mall, downtown Bethesda, and Bishops garden at STA. Know for a fact. Have seen these pics on my child's phone. They were sent to my child from others. Have also been told by my child which friend is getting BJs and which friends are giving them. These are middle schoolers at Big 5 schools as well as smaller schools that end in 8th. We've had the discussion about the legality of having these pics and distribution them. We've also had the talk about STDs and how easily Herpes is spread. We've also talked about boys disrespect for girls when they use them for BJs and girls disrespect for themselves when they give them. We've also talked about the hypocrisy of girls being called sluts and boys being applauded for their sexual escapades. You may think your child is innocent but unless you are regularly checking their phones, which you pay for by the way which means it's a privilege not a right for your kid to use, then you really can't be certain. And just because they SAY they aren't engaging in this behavior doesn't mean you should believe them. Can't wait for high school....
Agree. Do you people really think your kids aren't lying to you? Think again.

Either both parents worked or they went to a friend's house where both parents worked. I gave my first blow job in middle school at the home of a boy who had divorced parents and no one was ever home. I told my parents I was staying after school for something. I knew several couples who were having full on sexual intercourse in middle school. My mother saw a girl from my school walking to a house in our neighborhood daily and asked me who she was. I told my mom the girl's name and added she was going to our neoghbor's house to have sex with their son who was there alone after school every day until dad and stepmom got home from work. There were many other such stories. My mom did not believe it. My poor middle schooler has very little privacy as a result of these antics in middle school. I went to school in FCPS and came from a family that wanted for nothing.
May I ask how old you are?
I am in my 40s and we had only 1-2 girls who were sexually promiscuous in middle school.
Anonymous wrote:Sexting is the most eminent threat, really. Kids were having sex in MS 20 years ago when I was in MS but we didn't have cell phones to sext.
Because of the industry I'm in, I know that even when a photo is deleted from the phone, it's not usually really gone. Therefore, if my kid gets an unwanted nude and deletes it, if the phone is examined at a later date during an investigation, the threat of that photo showing up is very possible. The sexting is really ruining lives.
Most of DD's friends (13) have a very good grasp on birth control and being safe "fooling around." We've done a good job of reinforcing those aspects in school, but now we need to add technology and sexting into the classes.

+1
Weird connection, OP.
Maybe I should elaborate. There's a popular song out where the line is "snapchat me yo p*ssy". I'm not entirely blaming music but tweens/teens are able to communicate a lot more because of technology. They could be sharing videos, pics, etc. and their parents not know when teens 30 years ago couldn't (so easily). Also nowhere did I say that 25 years ago some MS kids weren't having sex, because of course some were.
