Bassett is the worst. Do not buy anything from them. Horrible customer service. We have a dresser from them that broke and they will do nothing to help.

I echo the earlier comments to look at a solid wood store like Zadia. For the same price or even slightly less, you pick a higher quality wood and can contract with their in house company to have it finished or painted in the style you want. They have a lot of options. We have found the quality to be much better— we’ve spent about $700 on large alderwood dressers that still look brand new after three moves and use (abuse) from three young kids.

I think it’s best if you can look at the actual furniture in store, then buy online. When we were looking for a dining room table I looked @Ethan Allen & PB and EA was considerably more expensive for what felt like PB quality. Some PB furniture is sturdier than others, depending on manufacturer - same with Crate & Barrel. I prefer Room & Board but they are fairly contemporary. We ended up getting a table handmade, and love it. Would recommend this or Craigslist (old Ethan Allen seem better quality)

RA is also cheap Chinese imports with huge mark up. Literally no difference in quality between these two brands.

All the furniture I bought at EA, including a dining set, looked horrible after two years. Never had furniture that scratched or chipped so easily.
Op, for dining room, consignment or other used furniture is your best bet. You’ll pay far less and usually get much higher quality if you stick to furniture that is more than 20 years old.

The painted PB stuff is crap. Maybe the stained stuff is better?
We have EA bedroom set that we bought in 2004 that is fabulous quality and looks new. Sad to hear if it’s going downhill.
We have a basset kids set from the 1980s that is in decent condition still...but I think the company has been thru significant changes in 40 years so that’s probably not relevant.
