Who pays for any child's visits home to see their extended families? The family, whether parents or grandparents. Some families prioritize that sort of thing. Gosh, would you be asking the same question if a child of German descent went home to visit their grandparents?

Sure it will; as soon as an Asian gets a 1700 out of 1600 on the SAT. Whites have it easier; they only need a 1650 out of 1600 to get in.

Whites don't need perfect scores either, and they get admitted too. Where I have a problem this is one black kid being accepted out of hundreds of whites and Asians who get admitted.

If there was this onslaught of African-American admissions, the Ivys and others would be MAJORITY African-Americans. The statistics prove otherwise. A simple, very simple, search on college websites (Common Data) will give you the numbers.

And as far as your comment about being a valuable commodity, we are not talking about a prized bull at the county fair.

There is nothing to be learned from this unicorn result. There is no "formula". Of the 15,000 students applying to both Yale and Harvard each year, there are only about 300 or 400 students admitted to both. Extend this principle to admission to Harvard, Yale and Princeton and get further drop off. Extend it to a fourth and a fifth and you will quickly realize that the probability of getting into all eight is really, really remote. As evidenced by this rare outcome, there is probably a story or two out there that is so compelling as to makes someone a must admit candidate, and no amount of speculation and discounting by this uninformed group will shed any light on the subject. I too question the motivation to apply to all eight. I do not, however, question that the candidate must have been outstanding.
