Yes, both of you are right. Also it is safe for those with ties. I have seen plenty of friends and acquaintances visit family there.


My husband is Iranian but grew up in the UK. We have many Iranian-American friends who go back to visit yearly, many with American spouses. It is safe and very friendly. By and large, Iranians are very educated and kind -- and they welcome Americans. They are very progressive people.
