OP - your story doesn't sound right. My DC took the IOWA in 5th grade and Algebra in 6th at middle school. The county's math department in general is against acceleration of this kind and I don't believe they would actively seek out students to accelerate like this. The push has been to keep the number of 6th graders taking Algebra to a minimum... and I know this from first hand experience. In addition, to qualify for Algebra 1 DC needs to pass advance the 7th grade SOL. My DC sat for the Iowa in Jan of 5th grade and only after he scored a 99% and was approved by the county math coordinator was he allowed to sit for the 7th grade SOL.

Your story doesn't make sense.

Hello, I have a daughter in 5th Grade and she is currently in regular math, so we got a teacher recommendation saying that she could take a higher level test and if she scores an 85% then she would be able to get into Accelerated Math in Middle school. So what would the 5th Grade Accelerated math test look like, would she be taking Iowa Assessment or the IAAT?
