You are being a little hard on op. It's not so much what he makes now as much as if he has the drive or ambition to be more successful, and if that's an important factor to op. Op shouldn't stay with him if she will resent him later on. But op - if you are ambitious it could be a really positive thing for you if your DH is not Bc that could free you to work hard to further your goals while he becomes the default parent for sick days, school delays, etc. Usually someone has to have the mommy track job and it can be him. And don't wait 5 years to have a kid if you're ready emotionally now. You can make the finances work if you find an in home daycare or do a nanny share. And if you're in DC there are many schools with free public preK starting at age 3.

$80K is pretty good for a guy in his 20's or early 30's. Does he make good decisions financially? Are his student loans relatively minor?

What is YOUR income? If you're making about the same income as he does, you can afford kids. I'm a single mom making $100K (in my 40's, gasp) and I was able to afford a kid. My ex makes about what I do and we both own our own homes, which is more expensive than two people owning one home together.


At this point, you need to decide if you're marrying for love or for money. You might not be able to get both. If you don't love him enough to overlook this, let him go - I know plenty of nice single woman who'd be just fine with a guy like this.

At 29, I felt the same way. But on the other hand I was a lawyer making $175,000 and had my own house, cars and Investments. I needed someone like me, not someone who made 80,000 with a ton of debt. It doesn't sound like OP even makes 80k. Your bf deserves better than you
