When I was at a law firm, when the associates would go out for lunch (or even with a partner), yes, a beer with lunch would be normal. Not mandatory, of course, but no one would care if you got a beer instead of a Coke/iced tea.

Now with the government, heck no.

Very rarely when I was at a law firm and there were work events. Never in the decade in which I've been in government. I like drinking when I am done.

At my old company the monthly all staff meeting always, always included beer and wine.

When we go out to lunch as a group, we drink. If we have a party at work, we drink. For awhile we had wine Fridays where we drank in the office around 3pm every week. If we had to deal with a shitty meeting, we drink. Yesterday we split a bottle of wine between 5 of us and plan to drink some more wine today.
so..I'd say at my job it happens fairly often.

When I used to work at the CBOE you would regularly find people doing blow in the bathrooms. Sometimes even on the floor.

When I telework, I'll sometimes have a beer on the back deck while working, or some Kahlua in my coffee.

Our firm will have an event with alcohol in the office and I will bring a glass back to my desk. I telework a couple of times a week and don't think I've ever had a drink while working.

When I was a Fed there was one or two occasions each year that warranted a celebratory lunch (major deliverables that usually came after months of late evening and weekend work). We'd go out for a team lunch and many people ordered a drink.
