I like that you are trying to get out of your comfort zones because your children want to experience the outdoors. Most kids like it but not all.
It's the reverse here. I can't stand to head into the city and we are going to NYC soon. NYC! hot and crowded.

Another vote for Lost River here. They have nice cabins, a pool, tons of nature trails, and there's a beautiful lake for swimming at Trout Pond park about a 15 minute drive from Lost River State Park.

OP here. When I first posted, I was looking for a local weekend getaway where we could stay in a cabin with beds and hot water. I am still looking for that option. Shenandoah or Jellystone cabins work for that. I will look into the KOA cabins. We want a fire. We may still pitch a tent. Just want the option and comfort of being able to go inside to sleep.

We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge at Disney. That was fun but not exactly a camping experience.

When I started researching, I found the Aman resort in Wyoming, which is more my type of vacation. I would love to do that trip along with Yellowstone. That is not glamping or camping.

I went there on my one and only camping trip. I learned that I'm not a fan of camping, but will definitely go back for all of the outdoor activities and will stay in one of their cabins next time. They offer rafting, horseback riding, fishing and other activities. You can purchase a package that includes your activities, lodging and even meals. They have a variety of lodging from camp sites, to rustic cabins, to nice cabins that are just like a regular home.

Deep Creek Lake area (western Maryland) is great place for kid especially if they like fishing. For a turnkey camping experience that even us parents can enjoy I suggest Wild Yough Glamping huts (www.mdglamping.com) - the huts have everything you need including private picnic table, fire ring and basic cooking supplies for 4 with 2 double beds. Nice pavilion with fun games, BBQ and more picnic tables and a clean bathhouse with HOT showers.

just renting a cabin doesn't make it glamping. you need a chandelier above your campaign bed and a claw foot tub in your tent.

You might try renting a cabin in Canaan Valley. Lots of hiking trails, little lakes and clean rivers for fishing. Also Shenandoah River State park cabins, Cape Henlopen cabins, Douthat State Park in Va cabins, Blackwater Falls State Park or Canaan Valley State Park. Air conditioned/climate controlled, fireplace, sheets, etc. Not "Kozy Kabins".

maybe you can get a cabin in the Shenandoah, Skyland or Big Meadows. The boys would love that. Hiking and streams. Then, you can drive yourself to Luray and see if they have spa services and spend the afternoon there.
