Yes, they are! We spent $3800 for a week. Not worth it. Doing hotel next year.

Very fun! Kingsmill is great for kids; have kid's camp, pool, lazy river, and of course, BG. We go every Summer for 4 days.

The best vacations are the ones with a mix of activity and relaxation and 2 rooms . For ex., our national parks involved a lot of driving and walking, so we also had days sprinkled in to just hang out at the pool.

Pittsburgh and environs was a surprisingly fun trip. I think we did something like this:
-- 3 days in Pittsburgh: Pirates game; walk around and see the river and the Fred Rogers statute; Carnegie museum; downtown outdoor market and cool sculptures; there's another cool museum for kids
-- 3 days in Seven Springs resort (I think Nemcolin is also close): alpine slides, hiking, stuff like minigolf, etc.

5) drive bryce to Grand Canyon 5 hours, stay Grand Canyon
6) grand canyon
7)drive to Las Vegas (5 hours) stay Las Vegas
8) fly out of Las vegas
You do notice you are driving 10 hours just to see Grand Canyon for a day. You can save driving time by just visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which is open in the summer.
I think Grand Canyon is not much fun, but you asked for it.

We did a driving vacation last year in Tennessee (needed to be there for a wedding, so built our vacation around it).
Went to Memphis for a few days, stayed at the Peabody hotel (with the parading ducks), Graceland, Mud Island museum, civil right museum, music, etc etc. it was a fun 3 days. Also went to Gatlinburg. Had ZERO idea this was such a major tourist destination. Plenty to see and do. Then we spent a few days at the end at a mountain resort - Mountain Lake lodge (tip - there is no lake). It was a quiet couple of days there, but we did go zip lining and hiking.
Lots of driving, but we saw some fun things.
Our next best vacation is just renting a condo/house at the beach. Ocean City Maryland is tacky as hell but fun for kids. Chincoteague VA is cute and charming and the beach is better.

Any beach trip. My kids love the beach and are happy spending an entire week doing nothing but playing on the beach and swimming all day. We went to OBX this year and my kids keep begging to go back. We have done lots of national park trips, but in the end the kids just love the beach.
