I have no idea how they get to their number. I suspect there's not a mandate that they MUST fill 120 seats, but rather they have the flexibility to do so to accommodate qualified in-boundary kids. In other words, I doubt it's a situation where they keep two separate pools. But honestly, I don't really know how it's done. Those are questions better directed to the magnet coordinator.

Of course it's not just kids in these schools. It's the in-boundary kids who go to the Oakview/Pine Crest HGCs. In fact, that's probably where most of the kids come from. Also, there are surely a few in privates. So it's wrong to assume it's just PBES and ESS kids.

The Oakview/Pine Crest HGC serves the Blair, Einstein, Kennedy, and Northwood Clusters. What percentage of students at the Oakview/Pine Crest HGC are from East Silver Spring ES and Piney Branch ES?

MCPS has a policy of feeder schools. Westland feeds into B-CC, so if you are in Westland in 8th grade, you automatically "feed" to B-CC.

Wait, so it's not just that RCF kids get to go to BCC, which is what everyone implies on DCUM. RCF kids get to go to BCC only IF they continue immersion at Westland. And Potomac/College Gardens Chinese immersion students get to stay at Churchill if they continue immersion at Hoover. Kids who continue immersion at SSIMS (French or Spanish) can stay in the DCC (through the second round of the DCC lottery). Presumably there is a similar feeder pattern for French immersion kids at Maryvale then Gaithersburg middle.

People on DCUM seem to think that the only preference is for RCF kids, but really all immersion kids have some high school preference. Just because BCC is viewed as the "most desirable" high school by some, then it's the only one that gets flack for it. (FTR, my kid is not at RCF, so I don't really have a dog in this fight.)
