BINGO. I dated a brain surgeon. SO FULL OF HIMSELF- arrogant!!!! We are still friends on FB (I live cross country now -but we ran with the same crowd years ago) - still FULL of it.

I am married to an Engineer- been together a long time. Not arrogant. Confident in his abilities - YES. No patience for stupidity - YES. But not arrogant. Can come across as condescending when dealing with people who he perceives to be wasting his time. I know him well enough to know that he isn't trying to be condescending - but if you aren't used to him and his 'ways', I can easily see how it could appear to be.

Not true that high IQ = low EQ, but maybe true for male engineers. There are many in my family - being an engineer is hereditary! My husband is one, and he's the sweetest guy one earth but not someone you'd want to tell your woes to. He'd reply with something resembling a spreadsheet.

They aren't arrogant; they just tend to see things a tad concretely, which is why they're good at what they do.

A therapist friend, son of an engineer, jokingly told me he was starting a group for recovering offspring of engineers.

Some of the engineers I know are arrogant, but all are f*cking awesome. My dad is a perfect example of the arrogant type. Hoping DD turns out to be the non-arrogant variety.
