Another voice for asking at Childs Play or Labyrinth. You can tell them what you do and don't like in a game (faking, spatial reasoning, acquisition strategy) and they can steer you the right way.

Boggle (you can play teams and let younger kids get points for two letter words). Speed scrabble ( no board but a couple of games worth of tiles. Good for mixed ages and can be played for any length of time.). For older kids Cards Against Humanity can play two person teams there too
