If you are worried about your battery running out, do everything you can to keep it from draining (cut off all applications, cut off location services, etc., do a search on the web now how to do this, things like location services drain away the battery even when you aren't actively using it). Or even just cut the phone off unless you absolutely need it. Doing this should keep an iPhone battery for a few days.


Thank you..that is good advice. The kid and I are without a car this weekend though Starbucks often seems to keep power (friend deal with Pepco?) so I will be very conservative using it if power goes.

hahaha. He won't be here Saturday. I sympathize -- my husband is out of town too and I'm stuck here with a toddler and in my third trimester. We'll get through it.

Mine is delusional too. He says he read on NWS we are getting 1/2 and was going to leave on a trip via car Saturday morning. He won't look at any other forecast.


PP here, that should read 1/2 an inch, one half an inch is what my husband says we are getting, it's because NWS reported yesterday that is all we will get on Friday and wouldn't commit to an accumulation total whatsoever. But this morning they finally did, 22-28 inches, but DH won't accept it.


This will be the biggest "I told you so" ever, when he's stuck somewhere for days. Get some wine and watch the fun. Report back!


I mean, if it weren't so funny I would think he is the stupidest man alive. I am not the OP, but my husband with his 1/2 inch total accumulation prediction may just win a Darwin Award.



He needs to go back and look again. The NWS didn't say 1 to 2 inches. It said 1 to 2 FEET.

A couple of things ...

1) Your husband is in emergency response and planning? God help us all.

2) You don't know where the charger for your phone is? What happens when you bring it home at night when there isn't an emergency? Do magical elves sneak up to your room while your sleeping, plug it into the charger, and bring it back up to your room before you wake up?

This sort of nonsense -- on part of both the husband and the wife -- kills me.

My DH manages to "have a business trip" whenever there is snow and he will have to stay home with the kids.

I had a flight that was supposed to get in late Friday on what turned out to be Snomaggedon--i changed it to the Thursday red eye, and thank god I did. I wouldn't have gotten home for a week. Look what happened on December 26-27 when it was just a couple of airports and a lot less snow. They cancelled HUNDREDS of flights for days.


Thanks pp. DS is scheduled for a surgical procedure on Wed so it's imperative that DH gets home by Monday. I found a redeye tonight with a layover unfortunately but it would get him into Dulles at 11am. I think that's the best we can do. Going to beg him to take it!!! (He's coming from the west coast).

During one of the last big snowstorms, I was optimistically trying to fly back from a work trip-got stuck in the airport and ended up catching a ride with the guy in front of me in line at the Southwest counter. 8 terrifying hours, but I made it home when I said I would be home.

+1. My husband works at a hospital and may get called in to work this weekend, and may have to stay there for a night or two. I'll have our young child and will have to walk the dog, shovel, clear off the car, etc. I may also shovel the walk for my 90 yo neighbor unless another neighbor does this.

Don't think of yourself as a damsel in distress--assume it's going to be all you this weekend, and prepare accordingly.

You can, but why should you? One thing if your spouse is deployed somewhere, it another if they don't have the sense to change their plans and come home when a big storm is on the way. That is shitty parenting right there.

My husband was active duty military. I dealt with hurricanes, earthquakes, tornado warnings, and numerous snow and ice storms without him. My children have always known that their mom could handle just about any kind of emergency.

You can handle this just fine without him. Be prepared and be calm. Make it a fun adventure for your child. Really, you can do this.
