What I've found is that if you lack will power, then use the power of the dark side: laziness.
I do intermittent fasting, eating only one meal a day. I skip breakfast, and lunch, it's super easy because getting those meals takes effort and time. At dinner time, it's very difficult to eat 2000 calories in one sitting.
Other things that require little to no effort: switch to diet drinks, or crystal lite if you don't like soda. Splenda for sugar substitute. Order lean meats like steaks and chicken or seafood when you eat out.
With the above strategy, I don't mentally force myself to eat less calories, it just naturally works out that way.
