I'm a female military vet; I would immediately recognize "servicemember" but I thought "serviceman" meant someone who comes to the house to repair appliances.


PP military spouse - usually I hear it like "servicemen and women". Still odd, but the phrase is out there.

I think I missed where OP said she needed to "escape" her parents.

Could you point that out to me?


I did read where she didn't want to follow the household rules so she did what she thought was an easy out a lot different from escaping.

Know many teens that once they turn 18 think that means they can do whatever they like and when they find out they can't get pregnant or join the military.

Only victims here are the babies.

I'm from a military family, SO was military. I hear this term used generically to mean active duty military without referencing a specific branch.

Who are vastly outnumbered by women never given the option of marriage.

OP, if you're not an immediate family member, for gawd's sake, MYOB!

No matter what position you take, you'll lose in the long run when everybody in your family makes up.

Just sit back and watch, safely removed from the turmoil -- and don't judge because you'll get your own immediate family drama soon enough. What comes around, goes around.

So, in other words, she did not do anything to you. You just like to judge her (and ascribe magical powers to her apparently, since you think she is capable of forcing a man to have unprotected sex with her and to marry her). Frankly, it sounds like she made some bad choices when she was younger in an attempt to escape controlling family. He made some bad choices, too. Unsurprisingly, the marriage that resulted from these bad choices didn't last. In what world is this your problem?


The outrage over the family support is probably just the latest in a long string of outrages that amount to little more than jealousy.
