Same with our 12-year old.
+1. I think all of the 12 year old boys are like this.
No, no they are not. We have always viewed athletic wear for athletics not casual wear and certainly not for school. At some point, you have communicated through your purchasing that this is scceptable for daily wear. It may be difficult to change at this stage without a huge battle.
I agree with this. For my 11 year old it is jeans/slacks/polos/shirts to school and other events. He wears athletic wear for when he is doing athletics or lounging around at home. He has asked to wear athletic clothes to school and the answer is no. I liken this to how you dress in the workplace - it should look like you are coming to work and not to a sporting event.
You are dictating what your 11 year old can wear to school??? Loosen up, lady.
I don't dictate what he wears, but there are a few things that are unacceptable for school i.e athletic wear, pajamas, clothes that are soiled or ripped.

I feel that these 11/12-year-olds who will not wear jeans will grow into 15/16-year-olds who still will not wear jeans. They are in for a rude awakening when they get their first job.
I make my kids wear some type of buttoned pants (jeans, khakis, etc) 2-3 times a week. Gotta get used to the real world!

In the "real world" I am required to wear a suit every day...wasn't really a rude awakening even though I had never owned a suit, let alone worn one, until adulthood.
Not to mention, khakis and jeans aren't acceptable at many places of work so OMG your kids are in for a rude awakening when they have to wear dress pants!!!
