I don't "agree" with some of my MIL's house rules/customs, but I respect and follow them in her home.

LOL. No, you don't need to follow rules from crazy people.

I'm surprised so many people think this is ok though.

You do know that kitchen sink handles, like all sink handles, can be cleaned? You just need a little of your favorite cleaner and a paper towel. Spray handle, wipe with paper towel. YAY!

Do the germaphobes realize that the same germs are everywhere, on everything, at all times? Your bathroom is no germier than your kitchen sink. In fact, the kitchen sink is usually the germiest place in the house because it's wet most of the time. These germs will not make anyone with a normal immune system sick. In fact, they make us healthier. Smothering every surface in disinfectant is much more harmful than leaving the bathroom without washing your hands. I'll accept that raw meat can have dangerous organisms, but that's kept in your kitchen, not your bathroom.

As a side assignment, watch the episode of MythBusters where they prove that used toothbrushes are covered with fecal coliform even if they aren't stored in the bathroom. And it doesn't even make us sick.

Well 1. The dishes are dirty
2. Unless you never eat meat, at some point, you've had dishes with raw meat in the sink
3. I can't say I've ever had my hands covered in pee and BM.

If this is the biggest issue you have to deal with in regard to your MIL, consider yourself lucky and move on. Stop dwelling on it. Pick your battles OP. This is not a hill to die on.

Happy Holidays

If you are getting pee/bm all over your hands when you use the bathroom, you need to change your wiping habits.

Trust me, her hands are no dirtier when she leaves the bathroom than they were when she entered the bathroom. Why does it matter which sink she uses?

How do all you people who think is is "so gross" even function in normal society? This is pretty far down the list of things that are "so gross" in life.

Why is this gross? The chances of her coming out with her hands covered in poop are pretty small. I'm pretty sure raw chicken or meat juice is a bigger problem than your MIL's pee hands (pee is sterile! it can not make you sick!). Unclench and move on with your life.

Can you put some hand sanitizer in the bathroom and encourage her to use it, even if she still wants to wash her hands in the kitchen afterward?
