So the jury members had to talk to the KGB, who called president Khrushchev, and after a very long wait, Cliburn was awarded the Gold medal.
What?? I'm sure there were all sorts of major craziness back stage. I'm sure they were trying to figure out how to best fix this horrible mistake.
